2nd Arrest In Alleged Sonoma County Hate Crime

SONOMA COUNTY (CBS / AP) -- Sonoma County authorities say a second person is in custody in an alleged hate crime attack on a gay man in a schoolyard.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office says 19-year-old Francisco Emeliano Serna of Santa Rosa was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of assault with force likely to cause serious injury, robbery and participation in a criminal street gang in the March 29 attack.

Serna is being held in jail on $475,000 bail.

Authorities say he and fellow gang members called the 18-year-old victim sexually derogatory terms while beating him at an El Verano schoolyard.

The victim had apparently gone there to meet friends.

Authorities say the suspects also took the victim's wallet and cellphone and attacked his friends.

A 17-year-old suspect was arrested on Friday.
