Daily Madden: The Raiders Are Better Prepared For The Draft, But Is It Enough?

OAKLAND (KCBS) - Like all NFL teams, the Raiders are getting ready for this week's draft. John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew the Silver and Black are better prepared than in the past.

"That's the strength of (general manager) Reggie McKenzie," Madden said, "setting up the draft and the draft room and the whole organization of the draft. And he's had time to do it and get some of his people in there and change that draft culture. So they're ready for it, but do they have enough picks?"

The Raiders have the third choice overall and the fourth pick in the third round.

"Just because you have it organized well, does that mean it's going to be good?... It's not what the dressing looks like on the outside, it's how you pick and who you pick. And then whoever you pick, how they do. And in some cases, you really can't judge that for three or four years... I used to joke a guy gets married, and you say how do you like your wife? 'Heck, I like her or I wouldn't have married her, come back and see me in five years.' It's the same thing here."

Madden doesn't see much draft day dealing by the Raiders.

"What you have to do is you have to get ready for anything. Those trade up-trade downs really don't happen before the draft, they happen during the draft, and they happen when your choice comes up... There are some teams that are locked into their spot in the draft, and I think the Raiders would be that way." (8:35)
