East Bay Baseball Coach Pleads Not Guilty In Molestation Case

MARTINEZ (CBS/AP) -- An East Bay high school baseball coach has pleaded not guilty to charges he molested three children.

Joel Kaufman entered his plea in a Contra Costa County courtroom on Tuesday.

The 52-year-old Kaufman has been charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors, including lewd and lascivious acts on a child younger than 14. He is accused of molesting one teen boy and secretly filming another in a bathroom.

Prosecutors say Kaufman abused a third boy in the late 1980s.

Kaufman is currently under electronic home arrest after posting $325,000 bail last month.

Kaufman was recently coach of a San Jose-based travelling high school-aged baseball club and previously coached at Oakland's Bishop O'Dowd High School, where he led the team to five league titles.
