PALO ALTO (CBS SF) – Tuesday was a rough morning for Caltrain, which reported delays stemming from both a broken-down train and a car that stalled on the tracks.

The first problem occurred sometime around 8 a.m. when train No. 323, a Baby Bullet express train, malfunctioned at the California Avenue station, Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.

It was scheduled to arrive at the Palo Alto station at 8:05 a.m. but was taken out of service. A second train came up from behind it to move the disabled train out of the way, Dunn said.

To complicate matters, a switching problem prevented trains from bypassing the slow-moving combo train, resulting in northbound delays of up to 45 minutes, she said.

Later, a car stalled on the Caltrain tracks at Whipple Avenue in Redwood City, Dunn said.

The car was removed from the tracks, but the incident delayed at least two southbound trains, she said.

No injuries were reported in connection with either incident.
