Man's Body Found Floating In San Rafael Canal

SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) - San Rafael police recovered a male's body Tuesday morning from the San Rafael Canal near Canal Street and Kerner Boulevard, a police lieutenant said.

An employee of a nearby business called police at 10:20 a.m. to report a body or mannequin floating in the canal, Lt. Raffaello Pata said.

Police responded in a rapid rescue boat within minutes and determined the victim was a male who was in the water too long to be resuscitated, Pata said.

No evidence of foul play was seen at the time the body was recovered, Pata said.

The body was released to the Marin County coroner's office.

Police will not release the male's identity until there is a positive identification and the next of kin are notified, Pata said.
