Cabrera Gets World Series Ring From Giants In Faux-Controversy

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS Sports/AP) -- Melky Cabrera finally received his World Series ring from the San Francisco Giants during a two-game stop in Toronto to face his Blue Jays, and it apparently couldn't happen without a controversy of sorts.

San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said he spoke with Cabrera and thanked him for his contributions to the reigning World Series champions. Cabrera was suspended for 50 games last Aug. 15 for a positive testosterone test.

Bochy privately presented Cabrera with his sparkly Tiffany & Co. ring before the series opener on Tuesday night.

Bochy said Cabrera wanted the exchange to happen in private while Cabrera said it was Bochy who wanted to do it behind closed doors.

Cabrera was the MVP of last year's All-Star game. He was batting an NL-leading .346 with 11 home runs and 60 RBIs in his first season with San Francisco when he was suspended.

Though he was eligible to play, Cabrera was left off the postseason roster.
