SAN JOSE (KCBS) – Authorities have arrested a 58-year-old man from Salinas on suspicion of producing child pornography, this following a nationwide manhunt.

David Stevens was arrested on Wednesday in Salinas and taken into custody by federal agents with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations office, with the help of Salinas police.

“Initially we were notified by the Danish police. They had obtained a video of an individual molesting a child victim,” said Joseph Vincent, Special Agent in charge of the Homeland Security office in San Jose. “They worked with our cybercrime center and they sought the public’s assistance to identify the individual.”

Vincent said a man called their tip line this week and reported that he thought he knew who the individual was in the videos and that he lived in Salinas. That led to the arrest of Stevens and when federal agents raided his home, they were also able to rescue a female victim.

“We believe that there was continual sexual abuse against the victim – it was very dramatic and very impactful,” said Vincent. “But it was very gratifying, on a number of levels, to be able to rescue a victim and arrest the perpetrator.”

Stevens made his initial appearance in federal court in San Jose on Thursday and is being held without bail. His arraignment has been scheduled for June 6.

The four videos discovered by Danish police in early May were timestamped in April 2013.
