Gilroy Police Suspect Saturday Night Shooting Was Gang-Related

GILROY (CBS SF) -- Police are investigating an apparent gang-related shooting in Gilroy that hospitalized a man Saturday evening.

Officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the area of the 7500 block of Alexander Street at about 6:30 p.m., police said.

When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old Gilroy man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to police.

He was transported to a hospital to be treated for his injuries which aren't considered life-threatening, police said.

A preliminary investigation determined that a suspect confronted the victim and fired several rounds at him with an undisclosed handgun, police said.

The suspect fled on foot, and was last seen running south on Alexander Street, police said.

The shooting is being investigated as a gang motivated crime, according to police.

The California Highway Patrol, Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office and Morgan Hill police assisted with the investigation.
