Novato Dance Instructor Accused Of Sex Act With Minor

NOVATO (CBS SF) — Novato police arrested a Modesto man Wednesday morning on suspicion of having unlawful sexual activity with a juvenile girl.

Richard Alan Selby, 24, a dance instructor, was arrested when he surrendered at Novato police headquarters at 11:48 a.m.

He was booked in the Marin County Jail for oral copulation with a person under age 18 and transmitting harmful matter with the intent to seduce. He is being held under no bail, according to the jail log.

Detectives determined Selby transmitted the harmful matter to the girl before committing a single act of oral copulation, Sgt. Michael Howard said.

The alleged sexual misconduct happened on April 25 in the 100 block of Digital Drive in Novato and was reported a few days later, Howard said.

Lt. Jennifer Welch said Selby and the girl are not related and police are investigating whether there are other victims.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Amy Yardley at (415) 897-4361.
