Sunnyvale Library Adds 3-D Printer, Book Vending Machine To Stay Relevant
SUNNYVALE (KCBS) — One of Silicon Valley's largest, the Sunnyvale Public Library has taken several steps to remain relevant in the digital age. The library has recently added a 3-D printer and installed an automated book vending machine for all to use.
If you think libraries are just for books, library services director Lisa Rosenbloom said you haven't visited the library in a while. She gave KCBS a demonstration of the new 3-D printer they recently purchased.
"You send us your file and then we print out your object for you. I've gotten a lot of interest in that," she said.
Meanwhile, the library is also adding an automatic book vending machine. Rosenbloom said it's all about keeping libraries relevant.
"Part of our job is sort of to be with society. What is society doing? What are they interested in and then try to translate into modern library service," Rosenbloom added.
Libraries can also offer something that seems to be increasingly rare in modern society. Elton, a student at De Anza College, said it's also one of the only places where you can still find books.

"All the book stores are closing, right?" he asked.
Elton said it is not only the books that attract him, but also the quiet environment the library provides.
