6 Rescued After Fishing Boat Sinks In Pillar Point Harbor

HALF MOON BAY (CBS SF) -- Six adults were rescued from a sinking fishing boat in Pillar Point Harbor in Half Moon Bay Thursday morning, the San Mateo County Harbor District harbormaster said.

Around 9 a.m. the group that had gone out rock fishing on a recreational fishing boat started taking on water and called the U.S. Coast Guard, Harbormaster Scott Grindy said.

A rescue boat from the nearby Pillar Point Harbor was dispatched out and was able to get all six onto the boat and safely to shore, Grindy said.

No one was injured in the capsizing.

The boat remains Thursday afternoon about 60 feet underwater just outside the harbor, Grindy said.

Some fishing equipment and coolers were salvaged from the sinking boat, he said.

A few portable gas tanks were also removed from the vessel, he said.
