FREMONT (CBS SF) – An 18-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly tried to steal a laptop from a school in Fremont on Sunday, a police spokeswoman said Thursday.

Nicholas Tennis, of Fremont, was arrested around 5:30 p.m. after an alarm system detected motion in a room at the Stratford School at 5301 Curtis St., police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said.

Officers arrived and saw Tennis walking on the east side of the school with a laptop tucked under his arm that was clearly marked as property of the school, Bosques said.

Initially, Tennis told officers that he had seen someone else break into the school and that he was returning the device, but he later confessed to breaking into the classroom and stealing the computer, according to Bosques.

He said he acted alone, she said. Tennis was booked at the Fremont Jail.
