Daily Madden: Who's On The 49ers' Mt. Rushmore?

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Pro Football Talk is selecting four people to represent NFL franchises on a mythical Mt. Rushmore for every team.

"That's a heck of a game," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.

Joe Montana, Bill Walsh, Jerry Rice and Ronnie Lott were picked for the 49ers, and John didn't disagree.

"It's easy to say would you put Steve Young in there," John said. But the picks are limited to four, and adding one means removing another. "I'd put Steve Young in there. I may put guys like Hugh McElhenney in there. I may put a guy like Joe Perry in there. I may put a guy like John Henry Johnson from that million dollar backfield (in there). I may throw a Y.A. Tittle in there. Those were guys that were really a big part of the 49ers also, although in a different era. They're all in the Hall of Fame too."

Madden said he likes the idea of selecting representatives from different eras for more than one Mt. Rushmore for each team.

"You could put a Y.A. Tittle up there with McElhenney, Bob St. Clair, Leo Nomellini... That would be a pretty good Mt. Rushmore group too."

Writers have selected John himself for the Raiders' Mt. Rushmore with Al Davis, Fred Biletnikoff and Gene Upshaw.
