Motorcyclist Critically Hurt In Clayton Crash, Driver Accused Of DUI

CLAYTON (CBS SF) -- A motorcyclist remained in critical condition Friday morning after a crash involving an alleged drunken driver in Clayton on Thursday evening, police said.

The collision was reported at 5:50 p.m. on Clayton Road near Oak Street, Clayton police Chief Chris Thorsen said.

The motorcyclist, a 51-year-old Antioch man, was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the car, identified as 21-year-old Jessica Mercurio of Concord, was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, Thorsen said.

She was taken to county jail in Martinez where she is being held on $100,000 bail.

Thorsen said an initial investigation revealed that Mercurio was driving on Clayton Road when she passed over the roadway's center median and struck the motorcyclist head-on.

He said charges are pending an investigation, which will include test results to determine the driver's blood alcohol content at the time of the crash.
