Cupertino Businesses Evacuated After Crew Hits Gas Line

CUPERTINO (CBS SF) -- Some businesses near the intersection of Homestead Road and De Anza Boulevard in Cupertino were evacuated after a construction crew hit a gas line Wednesday morning.

The crew pierced the 2-inch line at a construction site next to a Rite Aid drug store at the southwest corner of the intersection at about 7:30 a.m., sheriff's deputy Kurtis Stenderup said.

Deputies evacuated nearby businesses as a precaution, Stenderup said.

A hazardous materials team from the Santa Clara County Fire Department was sent to the area, Stenderup said.
