FBI, IRS Serve Search Warrants At Oakland Charter School

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- The FBI and IRS are executing search warrants at an Oakland charter school Wednesday evening, an FBI spokeswoman said.

The warrants were served at multiple American Indian Model Schools locations around 5 p.m. as part of an ongoing criminal investigation, FBI spokeswoman Julianne Sohn said.

The locations included a campus at 171 12th St. in downtown Oakland.

Sohn declined to comment on the nature of the investigation. Anyone with information about the investigation has been asked to call the FBI tip line (415) 553-7400.

The warrants were served as American Indian Schools appears poised to stay open during an appeal of the revocation of its charter by the Oakland school board because of alleged financial improprieties.

The school had been allowed to stay open for summer school while appealing the decision, and an attorney for the school said this week that Judge Evelio Grillo was expected to allow the school to begin preparations for the fall semester.
