Spokeswoman Jennifer Coats said the shooting was reported at 6:52 p.m. in the 1800 block of Derby Street between Grant Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

“Several of the callers reported that there was a person down. Our officers responded to the scene and we did locate a male subject down on the sidewalk who appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds,” she said.

A Fire Department ambulance took the man to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
