VALLEJO (CBS SF) — A fugitive wanted for federal drug offenses was arrested in Vallejo early Saturday morning after leading police on a dangerous chase in which he drove the wrong way on interstate Highway 80, police said.

A short time after 2:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 400 block of Topsail Drive and requested mutual aid from Benicia police and Solano County sheriff’s deputies, police said.

A short time later, a Benicia police officer attempted to stop a gray Jeep Cherokee spotted leaving the area where the shots were reportedly fired.

The driver of the Jeep failed to yield to the officer and sped away, sparking a pursuit.

The chase continued across Vallejo with both Benicia and Vallejo officers in pursuit.

Police said the Jeep’s driver tried twice to ram police cars and for a period of time, drove the wrong way on westbound Highway 80, nearly colliding with numerous vehicles.

Officers stopped the chase due to safety concerns but were able to locate the Jeep a short time later. It was found unoccupied in the 300 block of Cypress Avenue.

A female passenger in the car, identified as Jennifer Crackel, was found hiding in backyard a short distance from the Jeep.

Police said the driver, identified as Lloyd Harris, was later located in a nearby yard in the 300 block of Thomas Street with the help of two K-9 search teams.

Harris was uncooperative and resisted arrest but was ultimately taken into custody. Officers booked him into to Solano County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and on a federal arrest warrant for drug violations, police said

Crackel was also arrested on suspicion of drug violations and taken to county jail.

Police have not determined whether the pair was involved in the earlier report of gunshots fired.
