Teen Dead After Apparent Drowning In Tahoe's Emerald Bay

LAKE TAHOE (CBS/AP) - Deputies have confirmed that a 17-year-old boy is dead after apparently drowning in Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay.

El Dorado County sheriff's officials said Javon Lamar Green was pulled from the water Saturday morning. His exact cause of death is still under investigation.

Deputies said they responded to reports of a possible drowning in the bay a little after 3 p.m. Friday. Family members in a rented boat told deputies the teen had been swimming toward Fannette Island went he vanished underwater.

Relatives said the boat had been about 25 yards away from the small island.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter and the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office Dive Team searched for the boy, who was eventually found in about 72 feet of water.
