PETALUMA (CBS SF) — A man was arrested after he assaulted medical staff at an emergency room in Petaluma on Tuesday night, police said.

Petaluma resident Sean Elliot, 32, was arrested for assaulting emergency medical personnel and for obstructing a peace officer at the Petaluma Valley Hospital Emergency Room located at 400 block of North McDowell Boulevard, police said.

At about 8:20 p.m., officers received a report of a man assaulting staff in the hospital’s emergency room.

Officers arrived at the hospital to find Elliot being held down in the middle of the emergency room floor by hospital security and staff members.

Police said Elliot had transported himself to the emergency room to seek medical treatment, but while being treated, he started chasing staff inside the emergency room and became aggressive.

According to police, for unknown reasons, Elliot was combative with staff members and refused to obey commands to calm down.

Elliot punched one staff member in the face, causing minor injuries. Two other hospital staff members also sustained minor injuries, police said.

The injured staff members were treated and released from the hospital, police said.

Elliot was medically cleared from the hospital and transported to Sonoma County Jail, where he was booked with his bail set at $10,000, police said.
