17 Sex Offenders Arrested In Solano County Sweep

FAIRFIELD (CBS SF) -- Solano County sheriff's deputies have arrested 17 sex offenders for alleged parole and probation violations during a weeklong countywide sweep, according to a sheriff's spokesman.

"You've got 17 people that are going to have to deal with not playing by the rules," said spokesman Deputy Daryl Snedeker.

Over the past week, teams of deputies dropped in on 73 registered sex offenders living in the county to verify their addresses and that they're meeting the terms of their parole or probation, according to Snedeker.

During that time, deputies arrested 17 of the sex offenders for alleged non-compliance, including one who was arrested on suspicion of methamphetamine possession and another for alleged possession of live ammunition, the deputy said.

All were taken to county jail in Fairfield.

The sweep was funded by a Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement, or SAFE, a grant from the California State Office of Emergency Services.

The sheriff's office has received funding from the grant program each year since 2008, Snedeker said.

"The Solano County Sheriff's Office is committed to protecting all citizens of Solano County from registered sex offenders and the devastation their acts can cause to families," Solano County Sherriff Thomas Ferrara said in a statement.
