2 Reputed Gang Members Charged In Union City Murders

UNION CITY (CBS SF) -- Two reputed gang members were charged Friday with special circumstances murder for the shooting deaths of two other men in Union City on Sunday, according to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.

Eric Estrada, 22, of Hayward and Union City, and Robert "Dylan" Redding, 19, of Union City, are each charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of 21-year-old Danny Garcia-Sanchez and 18-year-old Carlos Estrada-Partida, both of Union City.

The two victims were shot in the 33400 block of 11th Street around 1 a.m. Sunday. Both men lived in the city's Decoto neighborhood.

Authorities haven't provided a motive for the shooting.

Estrada and Redding were also charged with the special circumstance of committing multiple murders, which could lead to the death penalty or life in prison without parole if they're convicted.

In addition, both men are accused of committing the murders in order to benefit a criminal street gang and Redding is charged with carrying a concealed dagger.

Estrada also is accused of having two felony prior convictions, which could increase his prison term if he's convicted. One prior conviction was for assault and one was for vandalism over $400, prosecutors said.

Union City police said Estrada and Redding were taken into custody during raids in locations in Union City and Hayward on Thursday.

Union City police made the arrests with the help of the Hayward police SWAT team, the southern Alameda County major crimes task force and the district attorney's office.

Redding was scheduled to be arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court in Fremont Friday and Estrada is scheduled to be arraigned in the same court on Tuesday.
