San Jose State Shuts Out Sacramento State In Opener

SAN JOSE (CBS / AP) -- San Jose State's David Fales, the FBS' most accurate passer last season threw for 225 yards and two touchdown passes Thursday night as both he and the Spartans picked up where they left off defeating Sacramento State 24-0 for their eighth-straight win.

Jason Simpson led the Spartan ground game with 135 yards including a 55-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Fales connected with Noel Grigley for a touchdown with 26 seconds left in the first half, bringing the score at halftime to 17-0. Chandler Jones had 8 receptions for 130 yards.

Ezekiel Graham led Sacramento state with just 49 yards rushing. Garrett Safron completed 23 of 40 passes for 192 yards, but was intercepted twice. Mistakes plagued the Hornets, as the team was also penalized 8 times, and a late fourth-quarter drive sputtered after a Safron sack and a delay of game penalty.
