SAN RAFAEL (CBS/AP) — A former photographer facing a possible death sentence for the murders of four Northern California women kicked off the penalty phase of his trial by calling attorneys whores.

Joseph Naso asked a Marin County jury Wednesday not to sentence him to death, describing himself as a someone who likes to help people in need.

The 79-year-old Naso then said the prosecutors were “jealous” of his excellent opening statement, and told prosecutor Rosemary Slote she needed to fix her hair.

Judge Andrew Sweet rebuked Naso for the hair comment, which was made after the jury went to lunch.

Naso was convicted of killing four women in the 1970s and 1990s. All four had alliterative names: Roxene Roggasch, Carmen Colon, Pamela Parsons and Tracy Tafoya.
