Salinas Man Sentenced To 79 Years For Sex Abuse Of Stepdaughter

SALINAS (CBS SF) -- A Salinas man was sentenced Thursday to 79 years in prison for sexual crimes against his teenage stepdaughter over a four-year period, according to the Monterey County District Attorney's Office.

Jose Luna, 36, received the sentence from Monterey County Superior Court Judge John Phillips in Salinas, Deputy District Attorney Scott Donahue said.

A jury convicted Luna on July 16 of 22 felony sexual offenses, including multiple lewd acts on a child, forcible oral copulation and unlawful intercourse with a minor, Donahue said.

Luna committed the acts against his stepdaughter while she lived in his home between the ages of 13 and 17, Donahue said.

The judge noted that Luna had previously been convicted of assault with a firearm in 1996, which as a violent crime qualified as a prior strike allegation, Donahue said.
