3 Women Die In Pittsburg House Fire

PITTSBURG (CBS/AP/BCN) -- Contra Costa County authorities said three women were killed when an early-morning fire burned a house where the smoke detectors weren't working.

Fire officials said crews responded to the two-alarm house fire around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Dimaggio Avenue in Pittsburg.

Crews put out the fire by 1 a.m., but they couldn't save the three victims who lived there. One woman was found in a bedroom, and the two others were in the kitchen. Their identities have not been released.

Fire Battalion Chief Lewis Broschard said three smoke detectors were found inside the house, but none of them were working. Uninstalled detectors were found in the laundry room.

Fire officials were investigating the cause of the blaze, which is believed to have started in the front room.
