Man Arrested In San Ramon Eviction Shooting Had Financial Troubles

SAN RAMON (CBS / AP) — A man suspected of shooting a property manager during a bank repossession of his San Ramon home was an investment adviser facing financial trouble.

42-year-old Mike Ghoneim and his wife defaulted on a home loan and were fighting a bank over whether it had the right to evict them. Court documents also showed Ghoneim’s wife was behind on rent for her business.

Authorities said Ghoneim shot the property manager in the leg Wednesday when he, two sheriff’s deputies, a locksmith and a realtor went to serve him an eviction notice. The shooting triggered a standoff that ended when a SWAT team lobbed tear gas into the $1.6 million home.

Ghoneim was being held for investigation of attempted murder.
