Watsonville Man Jailed For Attempted Homicide, False Imprisonment

WATSONVILLE (CBS SF) -- A male was arrested for attempted homicide and false imprisonment Friday night in Watsonville, police said.

Around 3 p.m. in the 100 block of Riverside Drive, the suspect allegedly threw a beer bottle at a moving car, police said.

The passenger of the car got out and attempted to keep an eye on the suspect while the driver circled back to the area where the suspect fled, according to police.

The suspect approached the oncoming car and fired a shot into the car, hitting the driver, police said.

The victim was transported to a hospital to be treated for his injuries and was in stable condition, according to police.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after and surrounded a home that the suspect was seen entering.

After a lengthy standoff, the suspect gave himself up and was taken into custody, police said.

An investigation revealed the home the suspect entered was not his residence, and he had held the occupants against their will, according to police.

No one in the home was harmed.

The suspect was booked into the Santa Cruz County jail on suspicion of attempted homicide and false imprisonment.

The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Watsonville police at (831) 768-3350 or anonymously at (831) 768-3544.
