High-Speed Chase Through Santa Rosa Ends In Biker's Arrest

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- A man was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase throughout the city streets of Santa Rosa early Sunday morning, police said.

At about 1:30 a.m., an officer observed a Harley Davidson motorcycle being driven at a high rate of speed in the area of Mendocino Avenue and Fourth Street, police said.

The driver, 29-year-old Santa Rosa resident Jim Boungnavath, failed to stop at a red light and the officer pursued him.

Boungnavath fled the area as the officer attempted to make a traffic stop, police said.

The pursuit traveled west of Third Street to Railroad Street and through residential neighborhoods while reaching speeds more than 80 mph, according to police.

Boungnavath ran several red lights and stop signs during the pursuit before he eventually abandoned the motorcycle on Aston Circle and fled on foot, police said.

Police found Boungnavath in the 900 block of Aston Avenue and arrested him.

Boungnavath claims he fled from the officer because he was intoxicated.

He was booked into jail on suspicion of reckless evading, resisting arrest and driving under the influence.
