Big Names Attached To Animated 'Star Wars' Project

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A new "Star Wars" cartoon series is in the works over at Lucasfilm Animation at the Presidio in San Francisco. Several notable names are in talks to voice lead characters in the new series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, film actors Freddie Prinze Jr. (She's All That) and British actor David Oyelowo (Lee Daniels: The Butler) are in the process to be cast in lead roles. As well as seasoned superhero voice talents Vanessa Marshall (Young Justice), Taylor Gray (The Mentalist) and newcomer to the voiceover scene, Steven Jay Blum (Ultimate Spider-Man) are close to signing on to the upcoming animated project.

The series titled "Star Wars: Rebels" is set between "Episodes III: Revenge of The Sith" and Episode IV: A New Hope." A time where the Galactic Empire is tightening its grip on the galaxy and eliminating the last remaining Jedi Knights scattered through out. At the same time, a fledgling Rebel Alliance begins to grow and eventually overthrow the evil Empire, as depicted in "Episode VI: Return of The Jedi."

Screenwriter for the upcoming "X-Men: Days of Future Past," Simon Kinberg, "Star Wars: Clone Wars" director Dave Filoni, "Young Justice" writer Greg Weisman and Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy round out the executive producers team.

The show's premiere is scheduled for Fall 2014 on the Disney Channel, first as an hour-long special and followed by the series on Disney XD channels.
