LOS ANGELES (CBS SF/AP) - Dr. Drew Pinsky says he had his prostate removed earlier this year after discovering he had cancer.

The host of HLN's "Dr. Drew on Call" wrote Tuesday on the network's site that he returned to work in 10 days after having a robotic prostatectomy in July.

Pinsky says he's now cancer-free and the only remnants from his surgery are six small scars on his torso.

The 55-year-old media personality and addiction specialist hosts "Dr. Drew on Call" on HLN. He also co-hosts the radio version of "Lovelines" Sunday through Thursdays on the Bay Area's Live 105. He previously appeared on the TV series as "Loveline," ''Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" and "Lifechangers."

Pinsky said he's announcing his condition to raise awareness about prostate cancer among men.
