SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — A man received non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed Saturday morning while trying to break up a fight in downtown San Francisco near the Phillip Burton Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, police said.

Police received an emergency call at about 4:37 a.m. Saturday about a motorist who had witnessed a fight in the area of Hyde Street and Golden Gate Avenue about a block east of the federal building, police said.

The male adult got out of his car and approached the fighters and then three of them attacked him, police said.

The man was stabbed multiple times but his injuries did not threaten his life, police said.

The man’s vehicle was then vandalized by some of the people involved in the fight, police said.

The suspects fled the scene and the incident is under investigation, police said.

Anyone with information about the attack is urged to call San Francisco police at (415) 575-4444.
