13 Arrested, $4M In Marijuana Found During Alameda County Sweep

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Thirteen people were taken into police custody following a marijuana cultivation and drug trafficking sweep in Alameda County on Thursday, police said.

Law enforcement seized 1,750 marijuana plants with an estimated street value of $4,000,000 from 11 residences, police said.

At about 8:15 a.m. on Thursday Hayward police narcotic detectives, the Alameda County Narcotic Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration and San Leandro police served search warrants at 13 residences in Hayward, San Lorenzo and San Leandro.

Bypassed meters were discovered at the locations, indicating theft of electrical power, officers said.

Thirteen suspects were taken into custody on suspicion of marijuana cultivation, possession of marijuana for the purpose of sales and theft of utility services.
