Stanford Co-Captain Ben Gardner Out For Season With Pectoral Injury

STANFORD (CBS/AP) - Stanford fifth-year senior defensive end and co-captain Ben Gardner is out for the season with a left pectoral injury.

Cardinal coach David Shaw made the announcement Tuesday. Sixth-ranked Stanford if off this weekend before hosting No. 2 Oregon next Thursday night, Nov. 7.

Gardner was first injured in Stanford's win over Washington on Oct. 5. He was sidelined for good in the third quarter of Stanford's 20-12 victory at Oregon State last Saturday.

Gardner finishes his collegiate career with 17½ sacks and 34 tackles for loss in 34 starts.

Shaw said "there's a chance" that fellow starting defensive end Henry Anderson could return for Oregon but he will reserve judgment until Anderson practices this week. Anderson has missed the last six games since he was hurt at Army on Sept. 14.
