Larry Magid: GoPro Becomes World's Best-Selling Camera

SAN MATEO (KCBS)— As you may have seen on 60 Minutes over the weekend a surfer's idea to build a better waterproof camera has proven to be a big hit.

Since its introduction 12 years ago, the GoPro camera has gone on to become the best selling camera in the world.

The San Mateo company has a number of models in the series, but basically it's a very small camera that comes with a number of mounting devices. You could mount it on your helmet or your bicycle handle bars or on the windshield of your car; stuff like that.

It's for very active photography as many skiers, drag racers and other extreme sports enthusiasts have used it in the past. Perhaps most notably, surfers have used it underwater to catch the inside of a wave.

Tech Report: GoPro Becomes World's Best-Selling Camera

You can buy one starting at $200 and if you did catch the 60 Minutes episode, they demonstrated some of the quality shots you can get with this equipment. Considering the camera's versatility, it's a pretty good deal.

The video (it can be used as both a video and still shot camera) comes out in high definition and what you can do is pretty amazing.
