San Jose Motorcycle Officer Injured In Downtown Crash

SAN JOSE (KCBS)— A San Jose motorcycle cop was seriously injured after being involved in a crash around 11:30 Friday morning in a residential area of the city.

The unidentified 13-year-veteran of the police force was involved in a collision with a brown Ford Focus at the corner of 4th Street and Empire, near downtown. He was then transported to a local hospital.

Sgt. Heather Randall said the officer was at first unresponsive, but was conscious and breathing during transport.

Randall said they weren't sure of the circumstances of how the incident happened, but were investigating speeds and directions of the respective drivers.

The male driver of the Ford Focus, which had extensive front-end damage, was cooperating with the investigation. Police said no citation was issued.
