Storm Puts An End To Lengthy Bay Area Dry Spell
SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) - The Bay Area was hit by a healthy dose of rain Tuesday, with a wet-weather system bringing much-needed moisture to the region for the first time in two months.
September 21st was the last recorded rainfall in the region, but by midday Tuesday, a storm had brought showers ashore for much of the Peninsula and North Bay.
"I'm very happy it's raining because I want the water to replenish our waterways so I can kayak again next summer," said Michelle Ireland as the rain fell in San Rafael.
About half an inch of rain was expected Tuesday and Wednesday in local flatlands, and about an inch in the upper elevations, according to meteorologist Lawrence Karnow.
The storm caused significant flight delays in the morning at SFO. People planning to fly are encouraged to check ahead.
Highs will be in the 60s in much of the Bay Area throughout the week, with overnight lows in the 40s and 50s.
Sunny skies will return on Thursday as the system moves south toward Los Angeles.
