3-Year-Old Dies After Being Hit Crossing San Jose Street

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -A 3-year-old boy died at a hospital after being hit by a car while crossing a San Jose street with two other people on Sunday, police said Monday.

The boy has been identified as Elijah Alvitre, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's
office. Elijah was a resident of San Jose, the medical examiner's office reported.

San Jose police responded at 1:39 p.m. Sunday to a report of a major-injury accident involving a vehicle and pedestrians at the intersection of Oak and Vine streets, a block from Washington Elementary School, police Sgt. Heather Randol said.

Three people had been crossing the street when a vehicle struck all of them. The victims were transported to a hospital, where the young boy was pronounced dead at 2:28 p.m. that day, Randol said.

The other two victims were treated for minor injuries, Randol said.

The driver remained at the scene after the collision and cooperated with police, according to Randol.

The Police Department's traffic investigations unit is handling the case.
