Man Arrested After Brief Petaluma Police Chase

PETALUMA (CBS SF) -- A young man was arrested after leading officers on a brief car and foot chase Sunday morning in Petaluma, police said.

An officer made a traffic stop in the 200 block of West Payran Street at about 1:40 a.m. Sunday, police said.

As the officer approached the car on foot, the 19-year-old driver of the car, Sergio Perdomo, who initially pulled over to the side of the road, sped off, according to police.

Perdomo drove south on Payran Street for about 2 miles and attempted to turn east on Caulfield Lane before losing control of his car and hitting a tree, police said.

Additional officers responded to the area and Perdomo attempted to flee the area on foot. He was apprehended a short time later, according to police.

Perdomo was transported to a hospital and after receiving medical clearance he was taken to Sonoma County Jail where he was booked on suspicion of evading a peace officer, driving under the influence, violation of DUI probation and driving on a suspended license.

He is being held at the jail in lieu of $55,000 bail.
