Body Discovered In San Jose Highway Overpass

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Investigators are working to identify a body that was found inside a highway overpass in San Jose early Thursday morning, according to a fire captain.

At about 12:50 a.m., a person arrived at a San Jose fire house and alerted fire officials to a dead body that was found inside the state Highway 87 overpass near Delmas and Auzerais avenues, San Jose fire Captain Reggie Williams said.

Emergency crews responded to the area and located the deceased person inside a confined space within the highway overpass, Williams said.

San Jose's urban search and rescue team was called to the scene to assist in the removal of the body from the confined space, according to Williams.

The overpass is located near a homeless encampment, leading investigators to believe the deceased may have been a homeless individual.
