Investigators Looking Into Chlorine Gas Release At Pittsburg Plant
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — An investigation is underway at the K2 Pure Solutions chemical plant in Pittsburg to determine what caused two releases of chlorine gas.
Paul Andrews, a spokesman for the Contra Costa Hazardous Materials Program told KCBS, the first release was Tuesday afternoon with a second occurring early Wednesday morning.
Andrews said no one on site was hurt.
"There was some small onsite releases of gaseous chlorine. No large quantity of chlorine was released to the public," Andrews said.
Chemical engineers from the county are going to conduct a chemical analysis to determine how the failures occurred in the heat exchange units that turn the chorine into liquid.
The K2 plant is located inside the Dow Chemical Facility on Loveridge Road.
