SAN JOSE (CBS SF) — Crews were cleaning up a diesel fuel spill that resulted when a big rig went off the roadway and crashed just off of Interstate Highway 880 in San Jose Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver said that he might have fallen asleep at the wheel, the CHP said.
According to the CHP, the driver went off the side of the road and drove into a ditch near the Steven Creek Boulevard off-ramp at about 2:40 a.m.
Diesel fuel spilled into dirt near the roadway and cleanup crews were responding to the scene.
The far right lane was blocked briefly by emergency crews, but all lanes reopened at about 5 a.m., the CHP said.
The driver was determined not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to the CHP.
