Tech Report: Will The Alarm Clock Go The Way of The Pay Phone?

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— The standard, old-fashioned alarm clock could soon be going the way of the pay phone. Pixmania, an e-commerce company, compiled a list of the top 10 endangered technologies and alarm clocks are near the top.

KCBS p.m. drive anchor Patti Reising actually laughed when she heard this because she just bought her son an old fashioned alarm clock for Christmas, where the head of an owl pops off when it's time to get up. She joked it was no wonder it was on sale, because no one else wanted it.

Even I still have an old-fashioned alarm clock. It's reliable, I don't have to worry about the battery dying or about setting it for p.m. when I actually meant a.m.

I could see how maybe they are going out of fashion, but I still have one.

Other items on the endangered list include; stand alone satellite navigation systems (I have one built into my car, but I always use my smartphone), DVD players (thanks to streaming video), watches (the old fashioned ones, not smart-watches). The only time I ever need a watch is on a long airplane flight.
