HAYWARD (CBS SF) – A gas leak at an elementary school in Hayward disrupted classes for a short time Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

Colonial Acres Elementary School on 17115 Meekland Ave. in Hayward was evacuated after the discovery of an on-campus gas leak around 8:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Students and parents arriving at the school were told to go back home as firefighters worked to find the source of the leak.

Alameda County Fire Department spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said firefighters located the source of the leak and capped it. Pacific Gas and Electric workers were also on the scene.

The school re-opened soon after the leak was capped. There were no injuries reported.
