Instead of cash or credit kiosks to pay for parking, riders will get a new option—download a smartphone app that allows them to pay for daily or monthly charges. Passengers can also pay for parking via a toll-free number or online.
“There are two options available. There is one option where you can pay daily—$2 and the other is a monthly pass for $20,” Mary Currie, spokeswoman for Golden Gate Transit, said.
“The parking charge is only from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekends continue to be free.”
Currie said there will be signage in the parking lot notifying commuters about the payment options and said they would be advised to know their license plate number in order to use the system.
She also said because there may be some confusion for first-time or occasional riders caught unaware, they may be able to pay aboard the ferry.
