19-Year-Old Arrested In Fatal Shooting Of Antioch Man In Oakley

OAKLEY (CBS SF) - A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a killing that occurred in Oakley on Sunday morning, authorities said Monday.

Michael Arthur-Sanchez Martin, an Oakley resident, is suspected in the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Jesse Hernandez, which occurred at about 11:40 a.m. Sunday, Contra Costa County sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

Hernandez, an Antioch resident, was found on the sidewalk in front of a home in the 500 block of Norcross Lane, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lee did not say what led to Martin's arrest but said he was booked into jail on suspicion of murder, conspiracy, shooting into an inhabited dwelling, participating in a criminal street gang and a probation violation. He is being held without bail.

Investigators said another shooting that was reported later that day, at 5:48 p.m., in the area of Walnut Meadows Drive and Vintage Parkway is also linked to Hernandez's killing, but declined to elaborate.

One person suffered minor injuries from broken glass in that shooting but no one was hit by the gunfire, Lee said.

Investigators believe Hernandez's killing was linked to an earlier dispute between him and Martin, according to Lee.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at (925) 313-2600. People wishing to remain anonymous can send an email to tips@so.cccounty.us or call (866) 846-3592.

The city of Oakley contracts with the sheriff's office for police services.
