Victim In Fatal Oakland Shooting Was Older Brother Of Teen Killed On New Year's Eve

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- One of the two people killed in a double-fatal shooting in East Oakland on Sunday afternoon was the older brother of a 13-year-old boy who was gunned down in the city three weeks ago, family and friends said Monday.

Sunday's shooting was reported at about 2:15 p.m. near 100th and Longfellow avenues, where arriving officers found the two victims dead inside a vehicle, police said.

Police have not yet identified the victims, but family and friends said one of those killed was Lamar Broussard, the older brother of 13-year-old Lee Weathersby III, who was shot on New Year's Eve near 104th Avenue and Walnut Street and died at a hospital a day later.

The pair's mother, Dinyal New, wrote in a post on Facebook this morning about her "agony and ache and pain and despair and numbness" over the deaths of her two sons.

Family friend Todd Walker was at the scene after Broussard's death on Sunday.

Walker, who does youth outreach and works at McNary Williams Jackson Mortuary, said the family was already devastated by Lee's death and had just buried him after a funeral on Thursday.

"Now they're just numb," Walker said. "They don't know what's going on and they've got to go through it all over again."

The violence in Oakland "is destroying a lot of families," he said. "We see it so much working at the mortuary, with kids getting younger and younger."

Police said Sunday that the shooter fled the scene in a car before officers arrived and that no arrests have been made in the case.

Anyone with information about the double shooting is asked to call the Police Department's homicide division at (510) 238-3821.
