Teen, Man Killed Near West Oakland Boys And Girls Club Identified

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Police on Monday released the names of a teenager and a man who were gunned down in West Oakland on Saturday.

Oakland residents Denzell Jones, 15, and Kanem Ayers, 35, were shot around 10:45 p.m. in the 900 block of 24th Street, according to police.

A branch of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Oakland is located in that block.

Jones was a sophomore at McClymonds High School, according to Oakland Unified School District spokesman Troy Flint. There are grief counselors on campus this week, he said.

Flint said Jones had started at McClymonds about three months ago.

He had previously been at Oakland High School for about two months.

He had last been in a district school in kindergarten, and then attended schools outside of the district, Flint said.

No suspects have been arrested in connection with the double homicide, police said.
