SACRAMENTO (KPIX 5) — A Sacramento area man wanted on outstanding warrants was tackled by a police officer while attempting to escape on a bicycle. Michael Kennedy, 19 had allegedly fled Regional Transit police, leading to a police search Monday evening.

CBS 13 cameras caught the dramatic takedown after Kennedy hopped a fence, grabbed a bicycle leaning against a home’s front porch, and tried to evade officers.

When Kennedy veered away from an approaching Sacramento police officer, the officer tackled Kennedy, and a struggle ensued.

Kennedy was booked for outstanding warrants, fleeing from police, burglary and felony assault on a police officer.

Those warrants were for offenses involving the taking of a vehicle. The warrant was issued in December, more than two months after his sentencing, for failure to comply with his jail term.

The light rail station is located about a block away from where Kennedy was arrested.
