Elderly Man Found Dead At Burglarized Richmond Home

RICHMOND (CBS SF) – A grim discovery awaited police on Wednesday at the site of a reported home burglary in Richmond, where the body of an elderly man was found, a police spokeswoman said Thursday.

Police saw that someone had kicked in a door and ransacked a home in the 600 block of 14th Street, where a 74-year-old man was found deceased in a chair, Richmond police spokeswoman Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

An area resident called police around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to report that the home looked like it had been broken into and that a man inside appeared to be dead, the spokeswoman said.

She said the neighbor had noticed the apparent break-in earlier in the week but waited a day or two before calling police.

The deceased resident’s name has not been released.

Abetkov said it appears that the suspect or suspects committed the burglary after the man died of natural causes.

“We don’t know if it happened as a result of knowing that he was dead inside,” she said.

No foul play is suspected in connection with the man’s death.

Abetkov said investigators are seeking information about suspects in the burglary and are asking anyone with information to call Richmond police at (510) 233-1214.
